In the last song Blow Us All Away, Philip challenged George Eacker to a duel, in which Eacker shot Philip while Philip aimed his pistol to the sky. He was brought to the hospital while Hamilton rushed in, desperate to see his son. What's interesting about this song is that the chorus is Hamilton desperately screaming "stay alive". Through the entire musical, Eliza has always been telling Hamilton to "stay alive", but he never listens. Previously we talked about Philip being a very close resemblance of his father, so Hamilton telling his son to stay alive may have allowed him to get a glimpse of Eliza's perspective towards him, and it also signals a change inside Hamilton.

Soon after, however, Philip passed away. Philip was not his only child but definitely the one Hamilton shared the closest bond with. It was said that Hamilton was haunted by this loss for the rest of his life.
