10. Helpless

A very melodic and romantic song, the lyrics describes the interactions between Hamilton and Eliza that led up to their marriage. While most of the song talks about Eliza's thoughts on Hamilton, there are still some important phrases to note.

"I have never been the type to try and grab the spotlight" - Eliza, the middle Schuyler sister, is more of the quiet and shy type, whereas her older sister Angelica is much more extroverted and bold.

"Look into your eyes and the sky's the limit" - Eliza consistently thinks this way towards Hamilton throughout the song. This is a little foreshadowing and a reflection of Hamilton's own belief as he wants to be limitless and exceed all expectations.

Hamilton has a short line in this song, but it is an important one: "Eliza, I don't have a dollar to my name/An acre of land, a troop to command, a dollop of fame/All I have is my honor, a tolerance for pain/A couple college credits and my top-notch brain" - During that time period, rich women typically married rich husbands who had status, Hamilton, on the other hand, is poor, an immigrant, and has no status, but Eliza still married him because she saw that even though he had nothing, he still wanted everything (and later on he would get everything he wanted using only his top-notch brain).
